Our Mission
We believe that every child is a unique spark waiting to be nurtured. Our mission is to create a vibrant, playful community where families can explore Hindu culture through enriching activities and weave tradition into everyday living. We are dedicated to celebrating culture and fostering a sense of belonging for every little heart we meet.
Who We Are

My name is Aesha Mehta and I'm the founder of Happy Hindu.

I've been connected to my Hindu community since my teenage years, from leading the local Hindu Youth Association in Pennsylvania to training high school teachers across the country on how to teach Hinduism in diverse classrooms.
Â
Long before Happy Hindu became a program, it was something smaller: an at-home curriculum I built for my own daughter, always looking for creative ways to teach her core Hindu values through play and stories.

As she got older, I noticed a gap. There are wonderful Bal Vihar and Bal Gokulam classes, both in local communities and online, but most of them start at ages 5 or 6. Nothing structured existed yet for the preschool years.

So I decided to build one, and now I'm excited that I get to bring this work to our youngest and brightest minds in the Richmond region.

Our Approach
Grounded in Tradition, Designed for Today's Families
We weave Hindu philosophies and stories into every session, ensuring children connect with their heritage through playful, meaningful exploration.
Age-Appropriate Play
Our activities are specifically designed for children aged 2-5, using songs and toys that they're already familiar with to spark curiosity and creativity.
Community & Connection
We foster a nurturing environment where parents and children learn together, building a strong foundation for lifelong cultural appreciation and community.
The Happy Hindu Philosophy
For many of us raising second- and third-generation Hindu Americans, deciding what to pass on from our traditions can feel both meaningful and complicated.

At Happy Hindu, we believe the heart of our tradition lives in the dharmic values that help both our children and each of us understand who we are, how we belong, and how we want to move through the world. Dharmic values are the timeless principles that guide us toward kindness, courage, honesty, responsibility, wisdom, and care for one another.Â
Â
We bring these values to life in ways that feel natural and joyful for young children: through stories, songs, movement, art, play, and food shared together. Our children may sing different songs than we did, hear familiar stories told in new ways, and build traditions that are uniquely Hindu American. And that is something to celebrate.
Â
Beneath those new expressions is the same enduring wisdom our families have carried for generations. We also know that children learn dharma not only from what we teach, but from watching how we live, love, make mistakes, and care for our communities.Â
Â
Happy Hindu is a place for families to practice these values together, with curiosity rather than perfection. Our hope is that every child and adult leaves feeling rooted in their heritage, confident in their Hindu identity, and connected to a community where they belong and flourish.
